Joyce McIntosh - An Appreciation

by John Sheldon and Helen Lee From its foundation in 1848, the Gifford Horticultural Society has been overseen by a committee of enthusiasts. Today the Society still relies on people of a like mind who are passionate about gardens. Joyce McIntosh, who sadly died on the 9th May 2020, was such a person. Although originally a Flower Show volunteer, she was co-opted to the committee in 2011. In this she was always reliable, always on hand to help out, and always busy. Joyce also regularly attended and participated in the

Any suggestions are welcome - please email giffordhorti@gmail.com and do keep an eye on our news pages for updates. In the meantime, please do take inspiration from our show guide for this year - th

North Berwick in Bloom Tulip Festival

It's worth a visit to the North Berwick in Bloom website at any time of year but it's lovely to see that their annual Tulip Festival carries on regardless this year, albeit in a slightly different format. Their 2000+ tulips were planted in November and so well ahead of the current COVID crisis and despite their regular gardening sessions unable to go ahead, the tulip planters are blooming regardless and delighting locals. Have a look at their tulip tour guide here and you can see lovely tulip images on North Berwick in Bloom's instagram and facebook pages.

Gifford Horti members have very kindly been sharing their garden images during April and we've now started a gallery for May. Please share images of your growing garden to giffordhort@gmail.com and we'll add them to the gallery. https://www.giffordhorti.org/garden-galleries Picture shows some of Beryl's beautiful Erythroniums - visit https://macplants.co.uk/ for inspiration and online plant sales.
