UPDATE - Annual Outing Postponement
27 March 2020 Update: given the current COVID-19 situation and restriction on travel, sadly we will be postponing our planned outing. The committee will assess the situation in July with a view to a possible outing in September if the situation allows. Members who have already paid a deposit will have it refunded.
Thank you to Helen Lee who has already put so much work into planning the trip and we all hope we'll be in a position to reschedule for later in the year.
The outing will take place on Friday 5 June. Leaving Gifford square at 09:00, returning around 18:00.
Our first venue is Manderston House, the home of Lord Palmer (manderston.co.uk). Here we can visit the formal and informal gardens and lake and also have a private tour of the house, including the magnificent silver staircase and the Huntley & Palmer biscuit museum. This will be followed by a light lunch (soup and sandwiches) at Manderston tearoom.
In the afternoon we go to the extensive gardens at Mindrum in Northumberland (mindrumestate.com). The gardens were started in the late 19th century and extended in the 1920s. They include old fashioned roses, herbaceous borders, shrubs, trees and lawns, together with smaller gardens, water features, including a rock garden exhibited at Chelsea in the 1930s.
Given the extra visit at Manderston House, the total cost this year will increase to £35 per person. A deposit of £10 is required on booking. If you would like to book, please email and we will pass your query on to the organiser.
